You worked hard to get your certification – MCDBA on SQL 2000. Then Microsoft came out with SQL 2005 and you need to earn the requisite MCTS and MCITP certifications. But between work and your personal life (wait – who allowed you one of those?). Now here is the next problem – now SQL 2008 has been released and you need to get up to speed on it as well. Where to begin?
Well – you always have the choice of taking the individual tests that I discussed in an earlier blog, or you can take but two test and earn both your MCTS and MCITP: Database Administrator. If you currently hold an MCDBA on SQL 2000, then you can take the 70-431 TS: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 – Implementation Exam1. Passing this exam will earn you the MCTS: SQL Server 2005 certification. Assuming you have passed the 70-431 exam (and have your MCDBA SQL 2000), you only need to take the 70-447: Upgrade: MCDBA skills to MCITP Database Administrator exam2. Passing this exam will earn you the MCITP: Database Administrator. Simple and straightforward – pass two tests, earn an MCTS and an MCITP.
There is a similar upgrade process for SQL 2008, but those are dependent on you possessing the requisite SQL 2005 certifications. I will cover the SQL 2008 certifications in the next few blogs. In the meanwhile – go forth and Upgrade!
