Hi Everyone, I’m Patrick Park and about to write blogs about “VoIP Security”. Let me introduce myself first. As a VoIP engineer, I’ve been working on product design, netwwork architecture design, testing and consulting last 12 years. Currently, I work for Cisco Systems focusing on network architecture and security for Telepresence system (high-definition, life-size video conferencing solution). Before joined Cisco, I worked for Covad Communications (VoIP service provider) focusing on the design and deployment of secure network architecture and lawful interception (Communications Assistance for Law Enforcement Act [CALEA]) with various tools and solutions. I wrote a book “Voice over IP Security” a few months ago, which concentrates on the analysis of current and future threats, the evaluation of security products, the methodologies of protection, and best practices for architecture design and service deployment. This book not only covers technology concepts and issues, but also provides detailed design solutions featuring current products and protocols so that you can deploy a secure VoIP service in the real world with confidence. I’d like to start my blogs with the topics below. If you have any specific topics that you want to discuss, please let me know. – What threats exist currently and potentially? – What are the impacts of those threats? – Why are current data security devices not able to protect against recent intelligent threats? – How can you protect VoIP service and network from those threats? – What is Lawful Interception and how do you implement it? Please keep in mind that VoIP in my blog is “rich media” that includes not only voice, but also video, instant message, presence data and fax data over the IP network.
