Apparently, Joe Burton, CTO of Cisco’s unified communications group, had a pubic meltdown when his custom-built $4,000 Cervélo bicycle was not ready on time, according to Silicon Valley gossip site ValleyWag.
The story goes: after being told that his custom bike would be a day late, and then being told he would have to wait 15 minutes while other customers in the Cervélo bike shop were being helped, Burton allegedly burst into a stream of angry threats against the bike shop employee. The story admits that Burton was eventually convinced to apologize to the employee (threats of going to the police were mentioned), though characterizes that apology as half-hearted. Burton’s side of the story (if there is one) is not represented.
Of course, we at Cisco Subnet don’t know what really happened in that bike shop. But we do enjoy the irony of the alleged situation. Burton is in charge of the company’s unified communications products. Does a person that builds communications/collaboration products need to be a role model when it comes to real, in person communication?
