Cisco is No. 4 in a listing of the 20 most profitable companies in high-tech, according to Fortune. The company trails only Microsoft, IBM and HP, and is ahead of Oracle, Intel, Apple, Dell and several others.
Cisco ranks No. 57 in the Fortune 500.
Fortune cites data, voice and video convergence as demand drivers for Cisco routers and switches. It also states that advanced technology products, like its TelePresence virtual conferencing systems, helped boost profits by almost 10%, to $8 billion on sales of just under $40 billion.
The swine flu pandemic might be helping too.
