Or at least that’s what everyone’s surmising from a posted Bsquare press release (since removed) stating that the small company is working on software for “Dell netbooks running Google’s Android platform.” Both Dell and Bsquare say the release was issued in error and declined to discuss the possibility any further. But it goes to show. Almost every netbook maker around is considering Android as a future (if not current) platform.
According to the AndroidGuys, Bsquare is planning to port Adobe’s Flash Lite 3.17 technology to the phantom Dell netbooks. In the release, Bsquare CEO Brian Crowley said:
Integrating Adobe Flash technology with the functionality of Google’s Android platform on the full range of Netbook devices will allow our OEM customers to meet the high expectations their customers have of this new industry segment. As the Netbook and Nettop market segments expand, our Adobe Flash Lite port to Android is just one of the software products we will offer our OEM and ODM customers.
In the end, Dell refused to confirm the report, but it also didn’t deny it either. Dell spokesman Andrew Bowins simply stated: “Dell constantly assesses new technologies as part of managing our product development process and for consideration in future products.”
One of which is bound to be an Android-flavored netbook.
