Microsoft: Corporate Vista testers should switch to Win 7 RC Microsoft said it will continue at least until January 2011 selling Vista to computer makers, system builders, volume licensees and consumers, the company said. However, users testing Vista should abandon that effort for the Windows 7 RC candidate. Windows Server 2008 R2: 3 Key New FeaturesMicrosoft revealed today news of three interesting features new to the release candidate of Windows Server 2008 R2: 1) Hyper-V scales higher – Microsoft’s server virtualization software will now give users the ability to support 64 logical processors. 2) Processor Compatibility Mode – Allows the migration of virtual machines to another physical server with a different CPU version. 3) File Classification Infrastructure – FCI is a built-in feature that allows IT pros to classify and manage data in file servers.

  • Office 2010 Technical Preview will be available in July 2009. TechEd attendees will get the first opportunity to  participate in an invitation-only review program.
  • SQL Server 2008 R2 CTP will be available in the second half of 2009. Formerly known as SQL Server ‘Kilimanjaro’the new version will include self-service BI, multi-server management, and Master Data Services.
  • Microsoft Learning lab-based exam: Microsoft will release a new Microsoft Learning lab-based exam, Certification exam 083-640 (TS: Configuring Windows Server 2008 Active Directory), which tests hands-on skills, problem-solving and technology expertise on a specific technology in a virtual environment.
  • New virtualization solutions partners: Dell, Double-Take Software, EMC, Hitachi Data Systems, HP, and NetApp help Microsoft offer cost-effective remote site disaster recovery solutions. 
  • Microsoft Surface Service Pack 1 (SP1) has been released with an improved interface and installation.
