Earlier this month I introduced you to Francis V., one of the world’s worst phishers. In writing that post I had a hard time imagining anyone actually falling for the fellow’s ham-handed sales pitch.
What I needed to do was imagine “Freddie’s friend.” His tale of woe, while involving a phisher significantly more skilled that Francis, nonetheless shows how easily some marks are fooled.
From the Consumerist: “Freddie writes that his friend was tricked by a phishing e-mail. … Here’s a good rule of thumb: if there are links on the bottom of your bank’s Web site page for online casinos, drug rehab, and no-deposit bingo, it’s not your bank’s Web site.”
That might be a good one to pass along your less-than-vigilant family members.
