One week after reports that Apple will release a $800 tablet this October comes a report that the device will be subsidized via Verizon.
Just a week ago came a report that Apple has plans to release a $800 touchscreen tablet this October, just in time for the holiday shopping season. According to some, the upcoming Apple tablet will sport a 9.7-inch touchscreen and will come equipped with a PA Semi designed microprocessor that should offer impressive battery life.
And adding his 2-cents into the Apple tablet rumor mill is The Street’s Scott Moritz, who earlier this week wrote that when Apple finally does release a tablet, it will be subsidized through Verizon. Presumably, users will be able to sign up for always-on Internet access with the nation’s largest mobile carrier. It’s important to mention, though, that this speculative subsidy will be cheaper than the cost of an iPhone plan due to the fact that it will simply be a data plan with no accompanying voice plan.
While details are still murky, Moritz also writes that the tablet will not be a Verizon exclusive in the same way that the iPhone is an AT&T exclusive. Perhaps this means that a non-subsidized Apple tablet will simply be a larger version of the wi-fi enabled iPod Touch?
Either way, rumors about a supposed Apple tablet seem to be picking up steam, and while Moritz’s Apple predictions are admittedly hit or miss, this one doesn’t seem too far-fetched.
