Oracle's Larry Ellison tops the list, while a number of big names get zip

My Network World colleague Ann Bednarz has an interesting package of information posted this morning regarding CEO perks received by top execs in the technology industry, and for the sake of comparison, a handful of others.

You can see the slideshow here. Those who don’t care for slideshows can see a text-only version here.

No. 1 on the list — as at least I would have expected — is Oracle’s Larry Ellison, who receives $1.4 million worth of personal security services as part of his overall compensation.

More interesting, though, is group that receives no additional benefits beyond those awarded rank-and-file employees, which includes Cisco’s John Chambers, Microsoft’s Steve Ballmer and Apple’s Steve Jobs. Regarding Cisco:

The company detailed its position in its proxy statement: “Cisco’s named executive officers generally do not receive any special benefits such as payment of club memberships, financial planning or executive dining rooms. Other than their right to participate along with other enumerated employees in the nonqualified deferred compensation plan … there are no special employee benefit plans for the named executive officers and Cisco’s named executive officers are eligible to participate in the same employee benefit plans and on the same basis as all other Cisco employees.”

There’s probably no need for us to hold a bake sale for them or anything, but the gesture makes sense from a public relations perspective.
