Day 9
Had a little time to spare and went to Google. Used a keyword search of “CCNA telephone consulting” and “CCNA telephone job.” Got some results that looked like job boards but ultimately linked to existing job postings on some of the job boards I have been looking at.
Did have one surprise, found a job posting for AT&T in the Kansas City area. Sent in a resume and filled out their Web form. This one wasn’t on any of the job boards I have been looking at. Will see what happens there.
The Web page I was sent to asked for something that disturbed me — my Social Security number. After having been a victim of identify theft, I dont give my Social Security number out to anyone on a form.
I will give it to them only if required by law or if I think they need it and then only in person. In addition to the AT&T posting, I found 4 other postings and applied for them as well.
Got a call from Kendall Waldock of Search-press. He wanted to clarify some information about what prompted me to move to Kansas City and some of the recent job changes I had gone through. My information is being sent to the client today. He indicated that I could expect to hear from the client directly.
Also heard from a local systems integrator based on my profile that is posted on Dice.com. Receive an initial email from Molly Morrissey with MSI System Integrators asking me for a copy of my resume to use at a job fair later in the week. Got a followup email from her that my information was being reviewed by the account managers and she hoped to have word for me shortly.
I checked the available job postings on both CareerBuilder and Dice. Found 4 positions that matched my qualifications. Applied for them.
Back to the wait and see game that I have been learning to play. I have found that even though some job boards or HR departments want you to upload your resume, you then have to go through a series of screens/menus where you re-enter that same information. I would really like to understand why they do this. When I find a site like this, I think twice about applying for the position.
Got a call and email from a recruiter pitching a position to me in San Jose, California. Guess nobody reads the location information that says I am only looking in the Kansas City area.
When the mail arrived today, I got a surprise. According to what I was given when I was laid off by ACS, I was supposed to have the COBRA information by the end of the month. The letter I received today officially told me that my company insurance ended on 2/29. The surprise was that I was told in the same letter that “if” I was qualified for COBRA, I would get the information in 4 to 6 weeks.
It was very inconsiderate to tell me after I had lost my company insurance that it would be another month to month and a half before I would get the information about COBRA. Good thing I had decided not to wait and have already been looking at a more permanent solution.
