Day 10
Looked at the job boards this morning. Nothing new since yesterday. Heard from Lance Boecker of TekSystems. He checked in to see if I was still available. Told him that I was and he is continuing to look for opportunities for me. Heard from a new recruiter today – Ron McElroy of Nash Resources Group. He talked to me about a position that was initially for one position but was now for two positions. The customer wants to hire the senior level person first and then the junior level person with skills that the senior person doesn’t have. I will stop by and do a meet and greet with him after I finish with another appointment tomorrow afternoon.
Based on a comment posted to this blog, I have started keeping a spreadsheet of the jobs I apply for on a daily basis. Still working out the format. Right now I’m entering date, company Name, source (job site, etc), how I applied (fax, Web site, etc), job title, other info specific to the job. Will develop that over time. I may eventually go to a more conventional database instead of a spreadsheet so I can see what kind of reporting may tell me where I am having the best success and concentrate based on that.
Using my newly created spreadsheet, I applied for three jobs – two from CareerBuilder and one from Craigslist. The jobs I saw today didn’t post until late in the day. Will be curious to see the quality of jobs that I see from the different jobs boards and the quality of the followup from applying for a particular job.
I have been very surprised at the lack of followup I have seen so far. Very rarely have I had followup, not even a canned `thanks for applying but we selected someone else type of response.’
