Cisco makes content network delivery investment

Analysis
Mar 11, 20082 mins

Cisco has revealed itself as a strategic investor in GridNetworks’ $9.5 million Series A funding, which was previously

announced in October, though the networking giant “decided to wait until today to reveal that it was a strategic investor in that round,” writes TechCrunch. GridNetworks’ GridCasting content delivery network technology allows media companies to stream full-screen, HD quality, video content over the Internet. The Series A funding was previously announced by Panorama Capital in October, but Cisco was not mentioned in the press release.

TechCrunch writes: “It’s notable that Cisco has taken an interest in this hybrid CDN technology. Their investment and ongoing relationship should give GridNetworks the opportunity to integrate its so-called ‘connector’ software into non-computer devices like Linksys entertainment centers.”
