* Entuity gives IT managers a green perspective
Network management software maker Entuity this week unveiled upgrades to its flagship monitoring software that now provides IT managers with a perspective on green IT.
Eye of the Storm 2009 features both new modules and core product enhancements that provide enterprise IT managers with the ability to monitor and track power consumption. The capability, available for no extra charge via Entuity’s Green IT Perspective module, helps network managers drive data center efficiencies and cost savings throughout their environments.
“The software ships with a database that includes the average power consumption of devices to be monitored in the environment, such as Cisco switches,” says Ken Klapproth, vice president of marketing at Entuity. “With this information, network managers can establish policies and poll kilowatt consumption and determine when devices and servers need to be shut down.”
“Green IT initiatives have most commonly been associated with server reduction, but another substantial challenge and opportunity is to recognize carbon footprint improvements across all network-connected elements and devices,” said Jim Frey, senior analysts at Enterprise Management Associates, in an Entuity press release. “Network managers are in an ideal position to help IT departments find and monitor such resources for green policy compliance.”
Entuity also upgraded this version of Eye with an enhanced user interface, customizable even control, live data feeds as well as support for MPLS and IPv6. Company officials also say the software provides more actionable information to evolve the software from a simple trouble-shooting tool to a portal into how the business consumes IT and how IT delivers based on business needs.
“The economy is driving the need to do more with less and this version incorporates reports that puts thing in hard dollar values to make it clear for IT staff of all skill sets,” Klapproth says.
Entuity Eye of the Storm 2009 is scheduled to be available November 30. Pricing for the software begins at $50,000.
