With unemployment climbing, we can expect hiring to be especially selective in 2009. That said, companies need help positioning themselves for recovery. The executive recruiter identifies 35 jobs that will be in demand. “Fixing financial services is a priority, with good opportunities in cleantech, healthcare, social media, infrastructure – and private equity when credit eases,” says CTPartners CEO Brian Sullivan.

Social media continues to gain momentum. Indeed, Gartner recently reported that organizations must adopt these technologies to engage the best candidates. Opportunities lie in figuring out how to exploit the potential of Internet-based communities. Technology-related titles landing on the CTPartners’ hot list include head of digital media, head of advanced new media technology.
Healthcare, too, did reasonably well in 2008. The report forecasts healthcare informatics requires knowledge of both the payer and provider space, the product and service space, and WebMD, Google EHealth or anything related to electronic medical records (EMR). As such, IT execs in healthcare and insurance may possess the necessary skill sets. One tech role surfacing is vice president of informatics.
Finally, the report refers to alternative energy as the new IT. Strategic and hands-on green collar roles such as head of facilities management and chief energy officer will certainly interact with IT to drive green computing initiatives.
