* A busy month for identity management announcements
There’s a whole raft of product announcements I need to catch up with, and if August was this busy can you imagine what the fall and winter will be like? I mean, don’t all the identity management vendors try to position their products for the holiday season? No, not so you can give them as gifts, but so that installation can take place while most normal people are taking a few days off. Well, maybe that is your holiday present.
Here, in no particular order, are a handful of announcements you might be interested in:
Gemalto announced Live Provisioning last month. It’s a new feature within the Protiva strong authentication product that enables enterprise security managers to quickly and easily deploy new strong authentication devices or re-use existing ones by using a new Web-based capability to automatically create all of the information needed to set up and use a strong authentication device with the Protiva Strong Authentication Server. The system includes a Gemalto contactless reader used to securely communicate with the smart card-based strong authentication device. Go here to get all the details.
Namescape has just release Version 2 of its flagship product, rDirectory – you might call it the Swiss Army Knife of directory support applications. One user gushed that, “It’s a self-editable staff directory, a template driven account creation tool for managers, a way for users to create and self-subscribe to e-mail lists, a self-service password reset utility, a printer directory, and a valuable tool for any help desk or support center.” But wait, there’s more! Where does the time go? It seems like only a few months ago that I first talked about Voltage Security but actually it was over 4 years ago (see “Start-up aims to ease sending and receiving encrypted mail”). Voltage recently celebrated its 5th anniversary, in fact. Among the highlights: nearly 1 million licensed users of its flagship product Voltage SecureMail while the Voltage Security Network has reached over 35,000 paid subscribers in just six months. Finally, I want to tell you about a new tech conference being launched by Digital ID World’s Eric Norlin, The Defrag conference, coming up in early November in Denver. One of the featured speakers will be PayPal CISO Michael Barrett (former president of the Liberty Alliance). Norlin, in trying to describe the conference, said: “The convention that I’ve used to describe it is the ‘aha moment’ – that flash of insight that occurs in a collaborative session like a brainstorm. Defrag, then, was about building tools that would help to ‘accelerate the aha’ — and it has always seemed that those tools were made up of ‘implicit things’ (things working behind the scenes) and collaborative, enterprise 2.0-y things.” It should be an interesting couple of days.
