Salaries are always a topic of interest to IT leaders, so I’ve gathered some resources from Network World to keep you abreast of IT staff compensation trends as well as determine how your salary compares to that of your peers.
According to the story, new research from Foote Partners shows that IT professionals are being rewarded more for noncertified skills than for certifications. The average premium pay for noncertified skills increased 8% in the past year, while average earnings for certified skills decreased 2.3% for the same period. One reason for this trend is that business skills are increasingly important in all corners of the data center.
As 2007 Network World Salary Survey shows, IT pay is up an average 11.6%. When factoring in bonuses and stock options, respondents across the country will pull in an average of $97,600 this year. Surprisingly, though, IT workers aren’t overjoyed with their compensation. They rank overall compensation as the most important job criterion, yet only rank it 11th in terms of actual satisfaction.
Senior IT executives tend to be getting the largest pay increases as a percentage of salary – an average of 6%. And industries such as financial services and high-tech tend to pay better than other industries, with education, military and government landing at the bottom.
