Antispam start-up studies receiver’s reputation, 10/22/07: Turning the idea of sender reputation on its head, a new e-mail security company called Abaca Technology is announcing a gateway product that determines an inbound e-mail message’s potential to be spam based on how much unwanted e-mail the receiver has gotten in the past.
SonicWall announces larger UTM device, 10/19/07: SonicWall is expected to introduce at next week’s Interop New York conference a new family of fast, multifunction gateways designed to simplify deployment and management of security for large businesses.

Crossroads targets desktop, laptop data with data protection appliance, 10/23/07: Crossroads showed off a new data protection appliance at Storage Networking World in Dallas last week that helps customers protect the desktop and laptop data in their environments.
Microsoft starts shipping updated backup software, 10/17/07: Microsoft Wednesday announced at the Storage Networking World conference that it has started shipping its System Center Data Protection Manager 2007 software.
EMC, Hitachi, set to unveil data protection, storage wares, 10/15/07: At Storage Networking World this week in Dallas, vendors are unveiling a number of products that make it easier for users to manage and protect their storage environments.
Beware of hackers targeting storage systems, 10/16/07: Corporate storage systems and networks are an attractive target for hackers looking to steal sensitive data or launch computer attacks, Alan Lustiger, security architect at TD Ameritrade, told an audience at Computerworld’s Storage Networking World user conference in Dallas Monday.

Web 2.0 : Net honchos to discuss Web opportunities, 10/17/07: As an impressive roster of technology industry celebrities gather at this week’s Web 2.0 Summit in San Francisco, all eyes are on emerging opportunities for Internet companies.
Microsoft talks strategic acquisition plans, 10/18/07: Microsoft’s CEO Steve Ballmer today said the software giant will likely buy 20 or so companies a year for the next five years. Most of them will be what Ballmer characterized as “footnotes,” that is companies in the $50 to $200 million range. Ballmer said such acquisitions are more strategic to the company than large ones. There aren’t many companies in the $6 billion to $15 billion range the company would want, Ballmer said in a question and answer session at the Web 2.0 conference in San Francisco.
Microsoft: Google gets undue credit for ad conversions, 10/19/07: Google has gotten undeservedly all the credit for many clicks on the online ads it delivers via its search engine, but Microsoft wants to put a stop to that.

Dell aims to simplify IT, unveils diskless-desktop bundle, 10/10/07: Dell is trying to simplify IT with a new initiative aimed at giving customers flexible computing strategies, chairman and CEO Michael Dell said in an interview Wednesday.
* TOORCON HACKING CONFERENCE NEWS:
Cafe Latte attack steals data from Wi-Fi PCs, 10/17/07: If you use a secure wireless network, hackers may be able to steal data from your computer in the time it takes to have a cup of coffee.
Mac OS, Linux probably have URI issues too, 10/15/07: This week Microsoft said it would patch Windows to reduce the risk of a new kind of Web-based security vulnerability, but security researchers say that other operating systems are probably at risk too.
