The Google phone: Has a wireless upheaval begun?, 10/30/07: The Google phone is inching closer to reality, with wireless handhelds running Google applications and operating software expected in the first half of 2008, several industry analysts said today.

VON panel to telcos: Sell more ads, 11/01/07: Although telcos are used to being the only major players for voice services, they’ll soon have to change their business models to compete with such upstarts as Skype and Google, said panelists at this week’s VON conference in Boston.
VoIP apps branching out, panelists say, 10/31/07: There was a time when vendors billed VoIP primarily as a money-saver. But according to some companies attending this week’s VON Fall 2007 conference, VoIP’s ability to mash up voice with other data applications could be its biggest asset for businesses.
IBM taps Alcatel for unified-communications strategy, 10/30/07: IBM and networking provider Alcatel-Lucent are teaming up to take Microsoft head-on in the unified-communications market.

MPLS vs. WAN optimization, Part 1, 11/01/07: Life in IT is difficult enough given all the demands and limited resources. Working in IT, however, is a little bit easier when there is at least somewhat of a clear direction in the market relative to how a given technology is likely to evolve. Conversely, working in IT is notably more difficult when there is a divergence of opinion relative to technology evolution. Using that as a yardstick, we believe that the chaos associated with WAN optimization will make working in IT difficult for the foreseeable future.

LG’s iPhone-like phone launched in Europe, 11/05/07: The iPhone-like handset that LG Electronics unveiled at August’s Internationale Funkausstellung (IFA) trade show is now on sale in Europe, the company said Monday.

Specialist works to accelerate ASP.Net apps, 11/06/07: Start-up Strangeloop Networks has built a business around speeding up Web applications developed on the Microsoft ASP.Net framework. Its flagship application acceleration appliance is designed to do the kind of optimization techniques that normally would be done in code, such as controlling ViewState (a mechanism for preserving a Web page as it travels between a server and browser).

Dell to unveil simpler, cheaper products at Oracle OpenWorld, 10/31/07: Dell CEO Michael Dell plans to announce a series of new products aimed at making life easier for IT managers.
