Many IT and IT-related executives will be in high demand in 2008, according to executive search firm CTPartners’ annual list of hot jobs.
The IT positions landing on the top 30 list include those driven by social community; the big three tech firms Apple, Google and Microsoft; and the blurring lines between media, telecom and the Internet.
Social networking sites are huge and there’s a demand for experienced leaders who know how to generate revenue from the Internet. Tech-related jobs include vice president of community, head of digital media, and head of advanced new media technology.
In the traditional technology field, one hot job title is chief of safety and data security. The executive with this role protects against data and identity theft and oversees compliance agreements with global partners. Another relatively new post is the open source development manager to lead the design of systems using open source software, which was driven in part by the 2004 European Community antitrust ruling on Windows interoperability protocols.
CTOs also landed on the list and are expected to be financially astute these days. Along with aligning IT to the business, they’re charged with balancing the assignment of projects to in-house staff vs. outsourcers.
In the telecom-related field, city CIOs/CTOs find their cachet rising. That’s because municipalities are recognizing the value wireless networks provide in enabling city services and public safety applications. These IT leaders are needed to integrate wireless networks ranging from EMS video streamed to the emergency room in real-time, to camera surveillance of neighborhoods to automated meter reading.
