* DivShare, another cool file transfer service
endif; ?>There’s no such thing as too many ways to get IT stuff done. If you only have one way, then you are at the mercy of that method becoming obsolete or not being interoperable with the latest standards. One the other hand, too many choices and you have the problem of finding an optimal solution and the risk of making the wrong choices. Nobody said IT was going to be easy …
Anyway, here in the Web Applications newsletter we have another file transfer solution to make your choices of riches even worse: DivShare from Diversion Web Publishing.
DivShare provides the facility for you to upload a file of up to 200MB using the free service and 2GB using the premium service, DivShow Direct.
Using the free service the file is available for seven days for anonymous uploads and forever when you have established a DivShare account.
Once uploaded, DivShare provides access to the file or a folder through a simple HTTP URL, an HTML Link, and via a link sent using the built-in e-mail service.
DivShare offers two levels of privacy: The ability to share a unique download link only for people who you want to access a file or folder; or you can make a completely private file or folder that can only be viewed by you when logged in to your account (not bad but it would nice to have finer granularity such as the ability to define specified user names/passwords).
DivShow Direct allows you to show Flash video, audio and slideshows using a branded Flash browser using a direct link (that is, no download page from which the required content has to be selected). Pricing for this service starts at $4.95 per month for 5GB of storage, unlimited data transfer, and 50GB of Direct Downloads transfer (that is, via the player) per month.
