It’s the end of an era of sorts for the Cool Tools column. This is the last print edition of the column, which debuted as a weekly column on Sept. 10, 2001 (weird, huh?). It was around before occasionally to fill extra pages, but it officially became a weekly column in the Technology Update section. Starting next week the column will be online only, but I’ve been doing stuff online for years now.

Pleo dinosaur to ship in October
Robotics vendor Ugobe announced today it is now taking online pre-orders for its Pleo robotic dinosaur, a “designer Life Form” that “will evolve through life stages and develop a unique personality based on interaction with its owner.” The Pleo (pictured, photo by Mack Fraga Designs) will cost $349 and will begin shipping in October, Ugobe said.
