* Identity management education
Here in California, schools are going back into session (a couple of districts even started last week) so perhaps this is a good time to point out some identity management learning opportunities for you. Don’t worry, though, no one will try to steal your lunch money, nor will there a physical education requirement. This will all be virtual learning – right at your keyboard.
First up, Microsoft Directory and Identity Management Technology Specialist Alex Tcherniakhovski has recorded a series of presentations on Microsoft’s Identity Lifecycle Manager (ILM), specifically the Certificate Lifecycle Manager (CLM) functions. The new ILM product is more or less a combination of CLM with Microsoft Identity Integration Server. MIIS is the successor to Microsoft’s Metadirectory which, in turn, was the successor to Zoomit’s VIA metadirectory.
Many of you (at least those administering Microsoft Windows networks) will be familiar with MIIS but perhaps not so familiar with CLM. As Tcherniakhovski puts it in his introduction: “MIIS has been a part of Microsoft line of products for quite a few years, but CLM is likely to be new to a lot of us. So probably you are just starting to learn about the capabilities of this product.” When a prospective client asked him to demonstrate a proof of concept for the new product, he recorded the use cases and is now offering them to you, “hoping that these short walkthroughs will provide you with a basic overview of CLM.” They’re worth a look.
Next, Courion has just announced the next available podcast in its summer series. In the new podcast, “BB&T – A Case Study in Enterprise Provisioning,” Mark Fitlin, identity management project leader, outlines the successful results of Branch Banking & Trust’s implementation of provisioning and access compliance. Okay, it’s not the most scintillating lunch time viewing, but it may well help you grasp the best practices needed for a full-scale provisioning project. Last up is an online course from Sun, “Sun Java Identity Management: Integrated Solutions.” It’s basically an introduction to the identity concept and the drivers behind identity management solutions (featuring Sun’s products, of course). But it could be useful for those folks in your organization who haven’t yet grasped the concept of “identity” and how useful it can be. Register here. You will need to go through a “student registration” process, but the course itself is free.
