* Network and application optimization challenges debated at IT Roadmap
The last newsletter mentioned the forthcoming IT Roadmap conference that Network World is producing at the Adams’s Mark hotel in Dallas on Sept. 6. That newsletter also discussed some of the topics that we’ve talked about in recent newsletter and that Jim will cover in his two keynotes at the ITR conference.
Another topic that Jim will cover is the schism that often exists between the applications organization and the rest of IT. As we all know, there has been a lot written over the last few years about the importance of aligning IT with the business. Jim will present research showing that IT organizations have not done a great job of aligning IT with the business. Though that effort has been better than their work of aligning the various components of the IT organization with each other. For example, the IT organization in general has a closer relationship with the business units than the IT infrastructure organization has with the IT application development team.This research is totally in line with the feedback that we have been receiving from readers that point to the fact that in too many organizations the network is still believed to be the source of any application performance issue. This naive assumption tends to increase the time it takes to eliminate an application performance problem and it tends to demoralize network organizations.
