*Vendors argue the best way to accelerate application data across WAN links
You can help speed up application traffic over WAN links in a variety of places: at the client, at the server, in the network and on the network.
In a recent Network World Face-off article on the topic of WAN acceleration, George Kurian, vice president and general manager of Cisco’s Application Delivery Business Unit, argued that building acceleration measures into the network’s core elements creates a transparency that will help IT departments avoid interruptions in business critical services. On the other side of the fence Blue Coat System’s CTO Alagu Periyannan contended that applications have their own unique performance and latency issues that need to be addressed apart from the packet delivery mechanisms in separate application delivery wares. Both vendors seem to have points that directly align with their deliverables.
