Nevis Networks is announcing a free security assessment of business networks using the company’s LANenforcer NAC gear.
For businesses that qualify, Nevis will come in with its equipment and monitor network traffic for two weeks and evaluate whether endpoints on the network meet security policies.
The assessment will also discover legitimate and malicious patterns in network traffic with an eye on what to do about minimizing the malicious traffic.
One thing people implementing NAC often discover is that their networks carry types of traffic they were unaware of and from hosts that they were also unaware of. The LANenforcer assessment compiles a list of user names and MAC addresses of all devices accessing the network and tells what resources the tap.
It also scans each endpoint to asses its operating system, virus protection and antispyware software. This data can be compared to network security policies to determine what machines pose vulnerabilities.
The scan also discovers the activity of malicious traffic crossing the network to give an idea of what network transport resources are being wasted. The Nevis gear sorts how much bandwidth is going to what services and ranks the top 15 users of bandwidth.
This assessment isn’t free to everyone. To qualify, a business must have 500 or more end users and its own network security contact. The offer is good until Sept. 1.
For free it’s not a bad offer, but remember the full-court sales pitch probably comes along with it.
