Six of the 25 hot executive jobs for 2007 are IT-related, according to Christian & Timbers’ recently released list. The executive recruitment firm’s 12th annual list categorizes in-demand positions by the driving forces that are changing markets, business plans, and investment strategies.
Google, the stock market, and security are a few of the forces shaping the hot IT executive jobs for 2007, according to the list. Other forces driving non-IT related hot jobs include stock options backdating, environmentalism, private equity power, globalization battle of India vs. China, human capital, and one-to-one marketing.
Christian & Timbers notes that Google is ushering in the age of any content, anywhere and anytime, via soon-to-be ubiquitous connectivity. Companies will need execs who can anticipate what, where and how users want content delivered. Enter the chief convergence officer. The ideal candidate will have telecom experience and experience across industries. Another hot position is the “unwired” CTO of development or implementation. The CTO will lead wireless application or hardware development or oversee the enterprise’s use of smart devices.
What the report describes as “heat on the street” is characterized by a rising stock market and an upsurge in corporate buyouts. Compliance and regulations are big factors in the life sciences and financial services industries, forcing CIOs to be experienced in legal compliance. Life sciences and large financial institutions are seeking out CIOs to take on increasingly strategic roles.
Finally, data security breaches are putting the spotlight on corporate responsibility for consumer records. Chief information security officers (CISO) and chief continuity officers will be in high demand. The CISO provides tactical information security advice by examining the ramifications of new technology, while the chief continuity officer assures the continuing operation of a business no matter what emergency strikes.
