* E-Trail Digital Archive aims to keep your records in order
Following on from my recent newsletter regarding e-mail (“Why build when you can Subscribe Me?”), the topic of today’s issue extends the scope of e-mail management to support Web applications integration.
The area addressed by LightHouse Technologies’ E-Trail Digital Archive is the problem of compliance with record keeping as required by the likes of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act.
But it is not only e-mail generated in and around your Web applications that you need to worry about – there’s faxes, instant messaging, and any other communications, including dynamically generated Web content, that Sarbox also applies.
E-Trail is an open source solution that supports real-time capture as well as batch capture and backfilling the archive from existing backup media.
E-Trail Digital Archive digitally signs each message as it is added to guarantee the authenticity of the original electronic communication and provide auditability. All archived messages are compressed and storage is optimized by using single instance storage for message bodies and attachments that occur more than once.
Retrieval of communication is done through a Web interface that allows selection based on any combinations of senders and receivers, department codes, date and time, keyword, phrase or advanced regular expression applied to subject line, message body, and/or any attachments with case sensitivity, wild card characters, source filters, and Boolean logic operations between fields.
E-Trail Digital Archive uses full text indexing (based on the Jakarta Lucerne Search Engine) and provides query management to create, comment, edit, save, retrieve, run and delete queries.
Implemented in Java, E-Trail is designed as an extension to and integration with other systems, supports multiprocessor platforms, and supports a wide range of storage options including CIFS, FTP, WebDAV and storage-area network and network-attached storage systems.
E-trail Enterprise licenses start at $10,000 while smaller companies are offered pricing starting at $50 per user, per year.
