Novell CEO Messman ousted by board
Novell’s board of directors has ousted Chairman and CEO Jack Messman and CFO Joseph Tibbetts in a move to accelerate growth at the company, Novell announced Thursday. Ron Hovsepian, Novell’s president and COO, was given the CEO title in addition to his existing duties. Dana Russell, Novell’s vice president of finance, was made interim CFO until a replacement is found. Click here for more.
Third Microsoft Excel attack posted
Excel users have one more reason to worry. On Tuesday, a hacker published code that takes advantage of an unpatched flaw in the Microsoft spreadsheet software, the third such exploit to be disclosed in the past week. Click here for more.
Microsoft, Lessig launch new copyright tool
The coupling of Microsoft and Lawrence Lessig, an outspoken proponent of loosening restrictions on copyrights for digital content, may seem an unlikely one. But the software company and Lessig’s Creative Commons organization Wednesday will announce that they’ve teamed up to develop a tool that lets Microsoft Office users create Creative Commons licenses from within Microsoft Office documents. Q&A: Network exec on 10G, security and getting his CCIE
Jon Campbell – Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert No. 13772 – is the director of network services at FirstHealth of the Carolinas. Some of Campbell’s recent network deployments include a 10 Gigabit Ethernet backbone for supporting high-resolution digital radiology images and a pervasive wireless LAN for connecting mobile laptop users and more than 300 Cisco 802.11 IP phones used by doctors and nurses.
