Of iPods, encores, bra straps and measuring up.
But kids today? Hell, they’re not willing to pay the price. No flint-skinned fingers for this generation. Ooh-ooh-oooow, that lighter can get hot, you know. Pitiful.
And the iScorch peddlers – www.iscorch.com – just egg them on:
“When your favorite band blows the roof off the joint, pay them tribute with iScorch! . . . The next concert you go to, you’ll be paying homage to the band not with a lighter but with iScorch and iPod. Download iScorch for iPod Video, Nano or Photo and hold your iPods high! Be the first to usher in a new era of musical appreciation.”
And if the band just gets on the bus and heads for its next show, well, it’ll serve every last one of them iPod-carrying crybabies right. . . . Rock on.
She’s built like a brick-and-mortar . . . Brastraps.com is built like a brick-and-mortar shopping mall after the company last week opened its first kiosk in South Florida’s Broward Mills Mall.
And while Brastraps.com is by no means the first e-commerce concern to attempt the transition from an online-only operation to the brick-and-mortar world, it may hold the potential to cause the biggest stir in America’s malls since “as seen on TV” proved the folly of “not sold in stores.”
“We are extremely excited about the launch of our very first Brastraps.com kiosk,” says Jeff Reis, marketing director. “We hope this will . . . provide education, advice and affordable options for the art of properly accessorizing using fashion bra straps.”
Now, being a guy, I had never heard of Brastraps.com – or knew that bra straps could be purchased sans bra – before the company’s press release landed in my in-box. After all, guys buy underwear rarely, generally under duress and never with a moment’s thought toward fashion or accessorizing.
But chances are that the women reading this item are not so woefully uninformed, as Brastraps.com has been around since 2001 and been featured in dozens of fashion magazines. The company’s line includes 90 straps that are priced from $8 to – I would not make this up – $45. There are plans to expand beyond the Broward Mills Mall in the near future.
So, guys, here’s an opportunity to score points with the wife or girlfriend: “Hey, honey, let’s go to the mall. We’ll start at Victoria’s Secret – you said you needed bras – and then we can check out that new Brastraps place. You deserve to look your best.”
And how do you measure up? Finally, this exercise in idle curiosity has caused two separate stretches of unabashed idleness here at Network World, so I figure it’s time to share:
Want to know how common your surname is relative to the 55,000 most popular in the United States? You can get the answer here. It’s not a list. You plug in your name and get a number, such as McNamara: 1,220.
No. 1 is Smith. . . . No. 2 is Johnson. . . . No. 4 is Jones. . . . No. 5 is Brown.
I could not for the life of me guess No. 3 (until a member of the No. 5 clan figured it out.). Perhaps you can do it without help.
And despair not if you don’t register in the top 55,000; we had a couple of staffers suffer that rude awakening.
