* CompTIA looking for input from convergence subject matter experts for new exam

If you or someone on your staff has VoIP expertise, The Computing Technology Industry Association wants to hear from you.

Global trade association CompTIA is developing a vendor-neutral certification to validate convergence skills. Like most certifications, this one will require candidates to pass an exam, and that content of that exam is now under development.

“Input from subject matter experts is essential in developing an exam that will accurately reflect the kinds of skills that are necessary for individuals working in the convergent technologies industry,” says Neill Hopkins, vice president of skills development for CompTIA.

Convergence subject matter experts must have at least three years of experience working in the field of network management, VoIP telephony or voice, video, fax and data convergence. CompTIA notes that trainers, authors and those who can profit or materially benefit from the knowledge of the CompTIA convergence certification content may not participate.

CompTIA is hosting a meeting of these experts on Sept. 21-22 at its Oakbrook, Ill., headquarters. The purpose of the meeting is to outline the knowledge and skills standards that should be required of IT professionals who work in the convergent technologies industry.
