* New Boundary releases Policy Commander
A year or so ago I told you about New Boundary Technologies, its Prism patch management product and the patch management book that it sponsored (see “A patch management guide“). Prism has grown considerably over the 14 months since we last looked at it – it fact, it’s no longer an application – it’s a suite! A desktop and server configuration management suite, to be precise.
The suite adds asset management and software deployment functionality to the already-well-regarded patch management software. Actually, the suite combines a number of existing New Boundary products into a unified whole while adding additional functionality. Prism Suite combines the software distribution, packaging, configuration, remediation and patch-management capabilities of Prism Deploy and Prism Patch Manager with the inventory and license-management functions of Prism Asset Manager.
Prism Asset Manager is the newest addition to the Prism family and helps to reduce operational costs and organizational risk by maximizing asset use, monitoring software license use and helping to meet regulatory compliance.
The suite introduces the Prism Console, a customizable interface that can be configured to support established work processes and reporting requirements. And because Prism Console has an open architecture, you are able to add third-party management tools to it.
The modular design of Prism Suite allows you to choose an integrated solution set or individual modules depending on your organization’s needs.
The Prism Suite has been out for more than a month now, but just released last week was New Boundary’s Policy Commander (Version 1.5), a security policy management package. Along with this new version, New Boundary also announced the Security Policy Knowledge Base, an online repository of security policies, policy templates and accompanying documentation.
The Security Policy Knowledge Base includes New Boundary’s own security policies; policy templates from leading IT security organizations (such as the National Security Agency and the National Institute of Standards and Technology); and documentation on all policies and templates. The Knowledge Base also includes groups of policies that support regulatory measures such as the Sarbanes-Oxley Act and the Healthcare Insurance Portability and Accountability Act. The included Policy Editor allows you to create your own policies, import policy templates from outside sources, and even modify or customize the included policies.
Head over to the New Boundary Web site to download evaluation versions of Policy Commander and the Prism Suite. While you’re there, check out the interactive demos and sign up for upcoming Webinars devoted to giving you all the information you need about the products.
