How long has your server been up?

According to Novell’s “Cool Solutions” Web site, as of Nov. 10 the champion server (a NetWare 3.12 box) had been up for 2,263 days, 3 hours, 47 minutes, and 59 seconds. That’s more than six years without a reboot!

Cool Solutions list the best times they’ve seen for other versions of NetWare also (along with the name of the admin who submitted the documented proof):

NetWare 3.x

Charlie White – 2,263 days, 3 hours, 47 minutes, and 59 seconds

Paul Payne – 2,073 days, 8 hours, 16 minutes, and 4 seconds

Peter Machill – 1,780 days, 19 hours, 22 minutes, and 35 seconds

Sam Garmoo – 1,521 days, 19 hours, 02 minutes, and 20 seconds

Jim Erickson – 1,089 days, 15 hours, 58 minutes, and 01 second

NetWare 4.x

Thomas Keans – 1,607 days, 21 hours, 44 minutes, and 48 seconds

Bob Mouring – 1,478 days, 18 hours, 05 minutes, and 41 seconds

Paul Martin – 1,038 days, 02 hours, 01 minutes, and 35 seconds

Rusty Morris – 1,020 days, 03 hours, 40 minutes, and 00 seconds

The absence of NetWare 6 from the list simply reflects the fact that it was compiled a couple of years ago when that version was relatively new. It was only the recent, new screen shot sent in by Charlie White which stimulated interest in long-running servers once again.

If you’ve got a server with a lot of uptime on it, and you can prove it with a screenshot (or picture) Novell Cool Solutions wants to hear from you. Drop them a note and perhaps you too can go up on the “screen of fame.”

By the way, no sense looking because Microsoft doesn’t track “champion” uptime on Windows servers!
