Ipsum Networks this month will update its flagship network route and traffic analysis software to enable network managers to customize reports.
Route Dynamics 2.5, software embedded in a network appliance that monitors enterprise routing and gathers data at the IP layer, will include more features to let users customize reports. Route Dynamics monitors and records what and how routers communicate, and sets off alarms when performance drops below specified levels. The product also features a Java-based management console and provides support for multiple independent active users at any time, the company says.
“We don’t just show an interface to raw data, and what we do is different from what a SMARTS or an OpenView does,” CEO Dana Brown says. “Those types of products might isolate or localize a problem, but with route analytics you are pinpointing the problem.”
According to Ipsum, Route Dynamics 2.5 will help companies on multiple fronts. For one, it will address the estimated 30% to 50% of application performance-related problems that can be attributed to routing. Secondly, it will help companies more quickly launch new services, as an estimated 40% of companies delay launching new applications due to network performance concerns, Ipsum says.
The company competes with Bluewave Networks, Packet Design and West Ridge Networks. According to Forrester Research, route analytics technologies perform at least three IT jobs that traditional network and systems management products don’t: listen without polling to the conversations between the routers; display the Layer 3 logical path topology in near real time; and predict changes for enterprise networks.
Pricing for Route Dynamics 2.5 will be based on the number of routers in the customer network and will be announced later this month. Previous versions of the product have started at about $20,000.
