* Upromise signs up with Speedera for acceleration

Speedera last week announced that Upromise selected Speedera’s Secure Content Delivery (SecureCD) service to improve the download speed of its secure Web sites.

Upromise sponsors a free service that helps companies give families money back for college. The company reported it saved $100,000 in hardware expenditures. Upromise representatives also say Speedera’s SecureCD service helped them reinforce the security of the site.

Upromise says it wanted to boost its site performance for users far away from its hosting center in Boston. The Speedera network offloaded the Upromise sites by performing SSL encryption using servers throughout its network. At the same time, Speedera uses its edge delivery network to deliver content to users from servers located close to them.

Upromise used Speedera’s Site Analyzer monitoring service. Site Analyzer tracks Web site performance over time and ensures performance levels by detecting and troubleshooting the causes of errors and failures. Speedera’s CDN connects to more than 1,000 carrier backbones and has points of presence in the Americas, Europe and the Asia-Pacific region.

Speedera will also help the Fox Broadcasting television network support its Web site (http://www.idolonfox.com) in conjunction with the American Idol 2 series. Speedera says Fox Broadcasting wanted to create the Web site as an online extension of the show, providing a chat forum for fans, message postings and streaming media of performances.

Speedera will provide the On Demand streaming and analytics for the site. Speedera is distributing the streamed content using the Windows Media 9 Series Platform.
