Found a position on CareerBuilder and applied for that. Nothing on Dice or Craigslist.
Got an email from Sarah Anderson at BalancePoint about a Network/Security opportunity. Called her but got voice mail.
Sent a PDF version of my resume since I have seen how resumes look to recruiters and/or prospective employers when they download them and how hard they can be to read. Will be curious to see what she has to say.
Received an email from someone reading my blog questioning why I send a PDF with job applications. Formatting issues are the main reason I do this. If a recruiter/employer requests a Word format version of my resume, so they can cut and past the info into a different format for presenting to the hiring manager, I can send one out. Although I use OpenOffice and the odt format, I can save it to Word and send that file to them if needed.
Got a call from Sarah. We will meet at a halfway point between the two of us for a `meet and greet’ before she pitches me to the client. We talked at length about what the client is looking for in terms of experience and where the customer is looking to go.
The company sounds like one where there would be a variety of things for me. Will see how the meeting goes with the recruiter. Found a position on Craigslist that was in my area of experience and applied for it.
The meeting with Sarah went well. We went over some of the same material that we had covered on the phone. She will go over my resume with the account manager for the client and let me know. The client will probably get my information late today or early tomorrow.
Got an email about my blog, commenting the low number of my resume submissions. I am in the Kansas City Metro area. As I go through the job boards each day, I only apply to those positions where I meet the minimum requirements as posted on the job and a significant number of the items listed as plusses by the poster of the position.
In a previous life, I was in a position where I had to hire people. I had to pitch countless resumes by those applying who had little to no experience as required by the position. I am trying to make quality applications for jobs instead of bulk or scatter gun approaches.
