Microsoft researcher are working on software that aids the display and interaction with gigapixel-sized images, according to gHacks.net. The software, available as a plug-in for IE and Firefox, makes the browser HD View compatible and enable users to interact with large images, such as to zoom in and out of the image.
gHacks.net writes: “Since the images are of high resolution it normally does not decrease image quality that much when you zoom in. Only when you reach the limits of the image you will notice the usual effects when zooming in on images like a reduced sharpness of it.”
