I remember when voice and data convergence first reared its head reporters like me would ask what does this mean for the telco worker? The optimists would say that these folks are very versatile and with the help of their data friends they could pick up data networking quite quickly and the enterprise would live happily ever after. Has that ever turn out to be the case? In an interesting post by fellow Cisco Subnet blogger Michael Morris, a WAN specialist, he says there is no love lost between the data guy and the central office tech. He writes that much of his dislike for CO techs come from “dealing with union operators, who often gave me the impression they could care less about the customer being affected (in most cases, me).” He says unions have no place in today’s economy that require workers to be fleet of foot. That’s why there’s no Cisco Tech Union. No matter which side you’re on, cross over to his blog and join in the debate now.
