Microsoft is offering free support to any and all Windows Vista users who experience problems installing Service Pack 1

(SP1), the company says. Microsoft typically charges $59 per request for direct support, unless a customer bought Windows at a retail outlet or has a prepaid support plan. All others are usually referred back to the reseller who sold the PC or operating system or asked to pay for support.

SP1 support can be had via e-mail, online chat or telephone, covers installation and compatibility issues and is available for one year.
