Nortel [url=http://searchunifiedcommunications.techtarget.com/news/article/0,289142,sid186_gci1309832,00.html?track=NL-1045&ad=635357&asrc=EM_NLN_3547347&uid=7889862#]announced[/url] the SCS500 open source IP PBX this week. It’s an open source solution based on the SIPFoundry SipXecs project. It offers a lower price point than other Nortel offerings, the flexibility of an open source platform and most of the enterprise integration features of their larger platforms. That makes it pretty compelling.
The solution is designed to scale from 30 to 500 users and integrates with both Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 and IBM’s SameTime. It’s also unique in that it’s a pure SIP PBX which will allow for integration with service provider VoIP offerings like [url=https://www.callvantage.att.com]AT&T CallVantage[/url].
2008 is the year most analysts expect UC to show [url=http://www.hyperconnectivity.com/en/2008/04/unified-communi.html]widespread adoption[/url], well above the current 30% enterprise and 10% SMB.
