Day 49
Got contacted by Justin at Modis about a contract position at AT&T.
Before the process could get started they need my Social Security number for “tracking” purposes. Asked him to get this clarified as to why.
Flew to Nevada today to attend Interop. This will help me get up to speed on some of the newer technologies that I haven’t had direct exposure to, and do some possible job hunting. Will follow up with the recruiters I am working with as well as keep up with new opportunities while I am at the conference.
Day 50
Heard from a new recruiter today – Grace DeFranco with Intronix Solutions Group. She had found my resume on Dice and has several positions she wanted to talk to me about. She will send me an email to respond with my resume. She also asked for references from my past two jobs. I explained to her that company policy at both jobs prevented anyone there from giving a reference.
Justin at Modis forwarded a letter from AT&T requesting my Social Security number. The letter was pretty weak and didn’t give any information that told me anything I didn’t already know. I checked the Social Security Web site and this request has multiple red flags. Not very comfortable with giving out my SS# at this point in the process without a job offer being extended.
Ran into some problems getting on the Internet. For what the hotel room costs, I refuse to pay $13 a day for Internet access from the hotel room. Had some configuration problems to work through with my Sprint phone and am using it as an broadband modem. Got Sprint Support on the phone and they had to do some reconfiguration of my phone on the Sprint network.
Day 51
Heard from Kelly Webb at MidWest Consulting. She has four positions she wants to talk to me about. Sent her my resume and references. We will meet at 1:30 p.m. Friday for a meet and greet.
Day 52
Got a call from Pete Giroux at Comsys about a position with a nearby hospital involving Unix/Linux and desiring a background in Novell and Microsoft. Told him I would email him my resume and references when I got back home.
Over the past several days, had several good conversations with some of the vendors at Interop. Will be following up on those next week so see what employment opportunities might develop. It was time well spent because I was able to get face-to-face with these companies.
