Day 61
Heard from the local HR person at the financial services organization that approached me yesterday. I got an email saying I was no longer being considered for the job they approached me for.
I sent back an email requesting clarification since they had approached me saying I was well qualified. The local HR person responded back in a very apologetic tone. Apparently there had been lack of communication as to one of the qualifications.
The job requirements listed a college degree, but I was told by the first HR person that they would also consider experience. Ended up that wasn’t the case. I would like to know what having a bachelor’s degree does for your ability to do a very technical job. Have yet to hear a good reason for requiring this degree and not counting equivalent work experience.
Got approached by several recruiters yesterday about a couple of positions. The first position is for a local utility company that is in the process of being acquired by a larger utility. The position as listed is one month at a time, subject to being continually extended depending on how long the merger takes. This could be a couple of months to upwards of two years depending on how long it takes for the local PSC to rule on the merger and whether the local utility will continue to exist as an independent entity or will have the support services merged into the parent organization and duplicate positions eliminated. Will have to think about this one.
The other position is for a local credit union that has had an open position on the job boards for several months and recently extended the interviewing process. The position is a contract position with that organization until they can identify the person that they want to hire.
I am waiting to hear if the person who would be on contract would be considered for the position. There was no indication of that in the job posting. Don’t want to make the assumption that I would be considered if I took the contract position.
