Things that struck me during this yearly enterprise BlackBerry user conference….
1) RIM has a communications problem with its customer base. Right now it’s not a big problem, but it could easily get worse. None of the Day 1 keynotes addressed BlackBerry Enterprise Server 5.0, even several conference sessions by RIM execs were insisting this is a Big Deal. Managing customer expectations is, or should be, a basic part of customer relationship management.
2) RIM’s Mobility Voice System (MVS) will do for enterprise voice what RIM has already done for enterprise email: make wireless networking an attribute of the communications medium.
3) The rollout of BlackBerry Enterprise Server 5.0 over the next 12 months will test not only RIM’s customers but more importantly the company itself, as never before.
4) RIM’s focus is on person-to-person communications. But the wirelessly-enabled rise of person-to-machine and machine-to-machine communications may be far more significant, for both the enterprise and individuals. Will RIM be a player here, or a laggard?
