Everything about Chrome is quick. It was launched a bit too quickly via an inadvertent e-mailing of its intro comic book, and then it was hit almost immediately by a list of security issues. Now, just as quickly, Google has issued fixes to those bugs, and is recommending users download the latest version of the beta browser.
The new version plugs several holes, including the “carpet bombing” bug, in which Windows downloads a potentially dangerous Java Archive (JAR) file and executes it without warning. It also fixes two other bugs, one that causes a buffer overflow and another that could allow hackers to crash the browser.
To download the latest version of Chrome, users need to click on the wrench icon and go to “About Google Chrome.” The browser will then automatically check for an update. The latest version of the browser, with all the fixes, is build 0.2.149.29.
