Cisco pushes past Symantec to lead content security gateway appliances market

Cisco is making its mark in the content security market, in hot pursuit of Websense and Symantec. According to latest figures from Infonetics Research, Cisco edged past Symantec to lead in the worldwide content security gateway appliance market last quarter. It also widened its lead in the second quarter of 2008, reports Infonetics. Blue Coat holds the No. 3 spot. Meanwhile, Websense, which acquired SurfControl in 2007, leads the worldwide content security gateway software market, as well as the overall content security gateway sector, reports Infonetics. The content security gateway market, including software and appliances, increased 6% sequentially in 2Q08, reaching $455.5 million, according to Infonetics.
