Skills pay – the premiums employers pay for certified skills – for Cisco Certified Design Associate and Cisco Certified Design Professional dropped 14.3% and 11.1%, respectively in the past six months to July 1, according to the latest Foote Partners skills pay index. The Cisco certification that saw the highest skills pay increase was the Cisco Certified Security Professional, which increased 9.1% over the same period, Pay held steady for Cisco Certified Network Professional. In contrast, the certified skills that saw the biggest percentage increase was for GIAC Security Expert professionals who saw their skills pay jump 25%. They’re followed by Microsoft Certified Systems Administrators: Messaging, who enjoyed a 14.3% jump in skills pay.
The researchers also say that demand for certifications has “softened considerably,” reporting that for eight straight quarters, pay for the 165 certifications they survey has decreased, with the exception being ISC2 and ISACA-certified folks.
The Foote Partners’ IT Skills and Certifications Pay Index includes a survey of the skills pay premiums earned by 22,000 IT professionals in the United States and Canada. More facts and figures from the report in Network World’s Denise Dubie’s story.
