Europeans say no to HDTV

Analysis
Oct 1, 20081 min

Cisco is lamenting the fact that the growth of HDTV hasn’t ballooned in Europe. “We expected there would be 100 or more HD channels in Europe by 2010,” said Nick Fielibert, CTO of Cisco’s SPVTG product lines in EMEA and Asia-Pacific, as reported in TotalTelecom. Fielibert wants more Europeans to demand HDTV because “HD fills up the pipe nicely,” so that Cisco can sell the service providers fatter pipes. But obviously Europeans have more sense than to want to clog up their broadbands with 100-plus pointless HD channels. ‘100-plus channels and there’s nothing to watch on TV ….’
