Cisco employees get training on Internet safety

Cisco is educating its staff on the dangers of the Internet, reports Computer Weekly in the United

Kingdom. The networking giant has introduced videos to raise security awareness among employees and has introduced criminal background checks for new hires, according to the article. The story also reports that some Cisco employees are not permitted to cross international borders with PDAs, mobiles or laptops for fear the devices may be confiscated or copied for sensitive materials.

The article also includes an interesting quote from Chris Burgess, a behavioural psychologist and senior security advisor at Cisco, who says: “If you want people to be ‘always on’, when are they going to do their personal stuff?”

So not only are IT pros tasked with ensuring the security of corporate info, but they’re also securing the employee’s personal info by default.
