I stated in an earlier blog that I would cover certifications and exams from other areas besides just the IT Pro side. There are a number of other certification tracks and exams (and more on the way as well!) besides the in addition to the Windows Operating System certifications and exams. The first series I am going to cover is the Microsoft Certified Database Administrator (MCDBA) on SQL 2000 (in later blogs I will cover the newer releases of SQL).
The MCDBA certification has been around a long time (and not just on SQL 2000 either). Unfortunately, it is also approaching its final time – sort of. A number of the exams required to achieve this certification will expire in March of 2009 (or have already expired – some as far back as 2004) – so if you are interested – you need to plan on getting this certification done soon!
So what do you need to achieve this certification? Well, it is simple, just pass 4 tests and you are now an MCDBA on SQL 2000! You need to pass three core exams and one elective exam to earn this certification – nothing to it right? For the core exams, you must take and pass one SQL 2000 administration test (70-228 or have passed 70-028) and one SQL 2000 Design test (70-229 or have passed 70-029). For the third Core requirement – you must either pass (or have passed – as one of the networking exams is no longer available) the 70-290, 70-291 or 70-215. You also need to pass one elective test as well. As of this writing, there are 11 elective tests you can take (70-216, 70-293, 70-258, 70-526, 70-529, 70-305, 70-306, 70-310, 70-315, 70-316 and 70-320) to fulfill the elective requirement. There are also four other electives that could apply, if have taken the tests already, as they are no longer available (70-015, 70-019, 70-155, 70-175).
