As I mentioned in my previous blog, I attended the SSWUG Virtual Conference last week. I am really getting into it.
I enjoyed the session on “Intro to Scripting with SSIS” with Matthew Roche in Room A. It didn’t seem to matter that I missed the earlier “101” sessions. It was good to see the demos done with SQL Server 2008 although there were some performance problems with his machine. We all get the demo gremlins from time to time. It was good to see the new support for C#.NET in SSIS 2008. Matthew also gave us a good list of books for SSIS under the heading “BI Polar” https://bi-polar23.blogspot.com/2007/12/books-books-books.html
I also attended the Data Mining session with Brian Knight and Patterns for SSIS Configurations with John Welch before turning in for the day. All interesting sessions. They will help me deliver better training in terms of my presentation skills and some nice technical demos. I am looking forward to more advanced sessions later so I can pick up some advanced technical skills too.
I liked the sessions but maybe I was expecting more interactivity than was apparent. The early sessions were recorded and played back later in the day with the instructor signing onto the live chat session to answer any questions interactively. This was actually a nice touch. I noticed this during one of the later sessions when the instructor was apparently doing a live demo and at the same time answering a lengthy live chat question. Of course, someone could have been impersonating the instructor on live chat, but that wouldn’t be cricket…
