Cisco is planning to widen its reach into Eastern Europe, with an investment in the republic of Tatarstan, 497 miles east of Moscow.
According to reports by Computerworld Russia, the plans emerged from a meeting between Tatarstan Prime Minister Rustam Minnikhanov and Paul Mountford, Cisco president for emerging markets. Cisco already numbers as customers the Tatarstan President administration, the republic’s government, the State Council, and a number of financial institutions and mobile operators. The new plans include a technology park, as well as efforts to stimulate the republic’s telecoms industry, according to Computerworld Russia. Cisco’s budget for investments in Russia could reach as much as $100 million, according to Mountford.
